I had the opportunity to attend meetings in Istanbul and Izmir, and I have detailed information about Ankara. We had the opportunity to share the evaluations of TKP on the political environment of Turkey in detail. It is possible to say that the meetings were very productive in this respect. Better yet, the distance between the evaluations of our party and the approaches of the close relations of the party is almost completely closed.

redstarThe ruling AKP's mayoral candidate for Istanbul, Binali Yıldırım, admitted election defeat, in a recent statement he made. Yıldırım stated that CHP candidate Ekrem Imamoğlu was leading the election. He congratulated İmamoğlu.

The official results are not published yet. The first unofficial results coming to the news agencies showed a big difference between the two major rivals in Istanbul rerun. According to the results, CHP's İmamoglu wins 53.72% of the votes, while AKP's Yıldırım wins 45.37%. The turnout rate is 84.42 percent, out of 10.570.222 voters. In March 31 elections, İmamoğlu won %48.77, while Yıldırım won %48.61.

"When the Communist Party of Turkey said, "Ekrem İmamoğlu is the Mayor of İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality”, it was not defending him and the politics he represented but an improved understanding of justice. This understanding was the basic reason that led us to ignore İmamoğlu’s and his alliance’s decision to participate in the repeated elections and to make a call for an influential boycott.

However, both our understanding of justice and our political responsibility oblige us to maintain our attitude towards the annulment decision of the elections against the reactionary and pro-market agreement that have been imposed on our people during the repeated electoral process.

On a warm summer day with a cool breeze blowing gently from the Aegean shore, cars were shuttling between the hotel and the airport. Each vehicle had a couple of attendants, one Turkish and one Greek, greeting the representatives from various countries, who were arriving to attend a meeting that would take place on the next day, the 8th of June. It was reminiscent of Izmir of a century ago - an ancient and prosperous trade city of the East Mediterranean, mostly populated by Greeks and Turks.

But the scene was not only a nostalgic reminder of the past. The young members of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) and the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) were running around as part of a deliberate endeavor to recuperate certain moments and qualities of the past.

tkpZehra Güner Karaoğlu, the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality candidate of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) in the local elections of March 31, handed over her waiver of candidacy for the revote on June 23.

Along with Karaoğlu’s waiver, one more bill was given to the local election board with the signature of her party, the TKP.

tkpTurkish election authorities moved to block Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) candidate Mehmet Fatih Macoglu from taking office as mayor of Dersim today on “security” grounds. The Supreme Election Board (YSK) did not give any explanation for the decision which it said was based on the “security problem today.”

Mr Macoglu said: "No explanation was made. They said, ‘We don’t approve giving the mandate today because of a security problem and we don’t want to explain that’.” Turkey’s first ever communist municipal mayor said the decision was “like a joke” but added the hold-up would “not put a spoke in our wheel” and the situation would be approached with “maturity and calm.”
