An ongoing series of cyber attacks were perpetrated starting Thursday against the El Guri hydroelectric plant control system leaving the Venezuelan population without electricity for now almost 96 hours. According to the Venezuelan government, this nation-wide blackout was brought about by foreign-backed actions aimed at destabilizing the government President Nicolas Maduro, who stressed that the aggression "affected everyone equally without political distinction."

The Vice President of Communication, Tourism and Culture of Venezuela, Jorge Rodriguez, offered a press conference on Friday during which he demonstrated the participation of the U.S. senator for the state of Florida, Marco Rubio, in the cyber sabotage that left the South American country without power for more than 24 hours.

At his annual news conference Friday, China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, stressed that his country favors the rules of international law, respect for the sovereignty of Venezuela and negotiations without foreign interference to peacefully resolve the situation of the South American country.

Venezuela's Vice President Delcy Rodriguez announced late Thursday that President Nicolas Maduro ordered schools and offices be shut on Friday in order to speed up the repairs of the Venezuelan electric system, which was attacked by far-right groups Thursday afternoon.

The Minister of Popular Power For Electric Energy, Luis Motta Dominguez stated on Thursday that the electric system of Venezuela was attacked again on Thursday afternoon.

Several states of the South American country were left without electricity, Minister Motta stated that authorities are working to put the system back up and bring service back to normality.

When it comes to Venezuela, it can often seem a distant issue to many working Irish people, even to those of more republican persuasions, but actually what we’re seeing around the world is what we’re seeing today at home. From foreign nations undermining our democracy, organisations meddling in our island’s funds or resources, to media propaganda and military puppeteering. Our small rock on the edge of the Atlantic has seen all of these things in the past and they will define our future if we allow them. Even while peacefully playing the Western capitalists’ game, the Irish people have yet to be gifted the ink by neighbouring empires to write our own destiny.

Venezuela declared German ambassador in Caracas Daniel Kriener persona non grata Wednesday after “recurrent acts of meddling in internal affairs”, read an official statement from the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs adding that the diplomat has 48 hours to leave the country.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly rejects the cynical decision by Donald’s Trump Administration to extend for another year the infamous executive order initially approved in 2015 by former president Barack Obama, declaring Venezuela an “unusual and extraordinary” threat against the US security.

For most of the countries it is unconceivable that the first military power of the planet, which does not miss any opportunity to violate the International Law and systematically uses the force to satisfy its interests, intends to declare Venezuela a “threat”.

The United States government has renewed it's declaration of a national emergency over Venezuela for another year, which former President Barack Obama initially decreed in March 2015.

In response, the Venezuelan government said the renewal of this measure is "a historic error" in the context of the economic aggressions and threats of military intervention to which the U.S. has subjected the country.
