  92. The WFTU express its solidarity and deep condolences to the families of the victims of the landslide at a rubbish landfill in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa. Hundreds of people live near the dump, the city’s only landfill site. Some of the victims scavenged for food and items that could be sold, such as recyclable metal. The death toll until now is rising to 115 workers with the majority of them women, while residents of the area say at least 80 people remain unaccounted. While Ethiopia is one of Africa’s fastest growing economies the majority of its people are living under the poverty limit. The ones who lose their life in such circumstances are the poorest, workers, unemployed, poor farmers.
